Boushra Benyezza

Sands gathered from the four corners of the world, mixed to create harmony: for Boushra Benyezza, painting is almost a pretext, and sand the material that guides everything.

Career

A graduate of the fine arts institute in Montpellier, Boushra Benyezza has exhibited around the world, especially in France and the United States. In Morocco she has shown at the Lynx cinema and the Galerie Nadar in Casablanca, preferring places accessible to everyone, including those who have never set foot in a gallery.

The tolerance of sand

Her search for new sands takes her constantly elsewhere: “I am nowhere and everywhere.” With sand she symbolically creates windows and doors, and by mixing sands from different places she pleads for tolerance. Steeped in American abstract expressionism, admiring Nicolas de Staël’s struggle with matter and Jackson Pollock’s total immersion in the canvas, she seeks emotion through colour, and prefers to paint at night. As Andréa Taos wrote, she always leaves the canvas a white space for dreaming.

Landmarks

Graduate of the fine arts institute, Montpellier

Exhibitions in France and the United States

Lynx cinema and Galerie Nadar, Casablanca

Do you own a work by Boushra Benyezza?

The gallery can examine it: request a valuation or consign it for sale at ARTWORKS in Casablanca.
