Abdelhadi Benbella
Born in Mohammedia in 1974, Abdelhadi Benbella discovered a passion for drawing in early childhood; from the age of six, his pencil never left him. He went on to experiment with many techniques and supports, mixing colour, light and shadow, materials, volumes and forms.
The artist
His work has moved between abstraction, figuration and expressionism, and today leans towards Surrealism. Inspired by life and its difficulties, he creates curious characters drawn from Moroccan and Amazigh culture. Once intrigued by the world around them, his figures have in recent years become more universal, joyful and hopeful, carrying a message of tolerance and hope for a better tomorrow.
An engaged citizen, he is president of the national association of self-taught visual artists (ANPA) and has long led painting workshops, guiding many young talents. He has exhibited in Morocco and abroad, and his largest work, 12 metres long, is permanently displayed at the Supreme Court in Rabat.
