Collecting Moroccan art

ARTWORKS by Moroccan Paintings gallery, Luxoria, Avenue Ahmed Charci, Casablanca
ARTWORKS, Luxoria n°5, Avenue Ahmed Charci, Casablanca.

A collection is not assembled at random. It is composed like a sentence, in which each work takes its meaning from those around it. The gallery accompanies that construction with rigour, discernment and discretion.

What the gallery does for collectors

Search requests

Works by the masters of Moroccan modernism rarely come to market, and usually pass from one private collection to another. Tell us the artist, period, format or medium you are looking for: you will be told first, and in confidence, as soon as a matching work is entrusted to us.

Private viewings

At ARTWORKS in Casablanca, works are seen by appointment, unhurried, with the gallery at your side. A painting is judged standing before it, at the distance it demands; no reproduction can replace that.

Authenticity, checked before any sale

No work is offered without a physical examination. For a living artist, authenticity is confirmed directly with the artist; for a deceased artist, a certificate of authenticity and provenance documents are required. Our authenticity protocol.

Consignment and valuation

Would you like to part with a work from your collection? After examination and verification, the gallery can present it to its collectors. Consign a work · Request a valuation.

Framing, delivery and payment

Bespoke framing; delivery within 48 hours in Casablanca and Rabat, three to four days elsewhere in Morocco, international shipping on quotation. Payment by bank transfer, by cheque or on delivery.

The landmarks of a collection

Modern Moroccan painting is written in a few chapters: the pioneers, with Mohamed Ben Ali R’bati; the founders of abstraction, Jilali Gharbaoui and Ahmed Cherkaoui; the Casablanca School of Farid Belkahia, Mohamed Melehi and Mohamed Chebâa; the great singular voices, from Chaïbia Talal to Abbès Saladi; and the figures who carried the adventure forward, from Mohammed Kacimi to Fouad Bellamine. We devote a reference essay to them: the great masters of Moroccan painting.

Alongside them, the gallery presents the living artists it follows closely, whose available works can be seen in the catalogue; the most significant are gathered among the collector’s pieces.

Collecting is not speculating

An artwork’s future value is never guaranteed, and the gallery does not publish general estimates by artist: each work is singular in its period, format, condition and provenance. We would rather help you acquire less, but better.

Frequently asked questions

Can you find a work by a particular master?

We never promise a work we do not have. We record your request and tell you first if a matching work is entrusted to us, once its authenticity and provenance have been checked.

How does the gallery check authenticity?

Through a physical examination of every work, confirmation with the artist when living and, for a deceased artist, a required certificate of authenticity and provenance documents. Without these, the work is not offered for sale.

Can I consign a work from my collection?

Yes. The work is first seen at the gallery or by appointment, then its authenticity is checked under the same protocol before it is presented.

How is a significant acquisition paid for?

By bank transfer, by cheque or on delivery, as you prefer. The gallery gives you the work’s file together with the invoice.
