About Ghany Belmaachi
Born in the Kasbah of Marrakech, Ghany Belmaachi showed a talent for drawing from childhood and held his first open-air exhibition at 19 with the association of young painters of Marrakech. In the 1970s he became one of the active figures of contemporary art in Morocco: he founded the group Situation 73, organised an international exhibition in Marrakech in 1973, and co-founded the Association of Moroccan Plastic Artists in 1975.
He moved to Paris in 1980, where he earned a doctorate in aesthetics and art sciences in 1992, and has since organised exhibitions of Moroccan artists in France and the United States. His work explores a constant search for meaning and connection with nature.
