Painter
Karim Bennani
Born on 2 January 1936 in Fez, Karim Bennani lives and works in Rabat. One of the founders of modern painting in Morocco, he rejects labels: "My painting has no name, no anecdote and no theory. I paint day by day, following my instinct. Form is born each day on the support; things impose themselves on me in their colours and materials, haunted only by what my memory has retained."
The artist
In 2006 he created the Karim Bennani Foundation for Arts and Culture in Rabat. A sworn expert to the courts and an active member of the International Council of Museums, he has held more than sixty exhibitions in Africa, Europe, Asia, the United States and the Middle East since his first show in Paris.
