Painter
Karim Tabit
Karim Tabit is an ambitious young artist from a modest Casablanca family, whose path combines poetry, painting and study. He began writing poems at fourteen and won several awards, including first prize for poetry at the third international Ajyal meeting in Casablanca in 2008. It was through these gatherings of poets and painters that he discovered the visual arts.
The artist
He first exhibited in 2001 at the Faculty of Letters in Aïn Chock, Casablanca, where he earned his degree in Arabic literature. An admirer of Delacroix, Matisse and Moa Bennani, he offers a fresh take on material and technique, drawn to the colours of the seabed and the beautiful forms of life. From oil and pastel to watercolour, collage and printmaking, his painting is an explosion of life, a bouquet of light, form and colour. His series "Nostalgie" portrays joyful, smiling children in wheelchairs, a plea for the recognition of people with special needs in society.
