Mohamed Zouzaf
Born in Essaouira in 1955, Mohamed Zouzaf belongs to the Essaouira movement, devoted to preserving ancestral popular memory and mastering traditional arts and crafts. With finesse and expertise, he has explored for many years a mysterious repertoire of signs and symbols, transposing them in a ritual, unchanging way.
The artist
Working mainly on skins mounted on wood, he gives great importance to the materiality of his works, meticulously tracing a range of pictographic elements. At times he leaves room for spontaneity, bringing together signs, symbols and geometric figures in an eclectic way, creating a rich, vibrant visual language admired in Morocco and abroad.
