Painter
Mustapha El Ansari
Born in El Jadida in 1945, Mustapha El Ansari is a meteorological engineer by profession who lives and works in Casablanca. Although steered early towards a scientific career, he spent much of his free time drawing and painting, first to decorate his home or as gifts for friends. Travels abroad, discoveries of different techniques and movements, and the encouragement of fellow artists led him to devote himself fully to painting.
The artist
After illustrating for a Kuwaiti daily newspaper in 1977, he held his first solo exhibition in Casablanca in 1985. His career has since combined art and science in original ways, with solo exhibitions at the headquarters of the World Meteorological Organization in Geneva for World Meteorological Day (2001) and at Météo-France in Toulouse (2004). His work has also been shown in Saint-Tropez, Bali, Paris, New York and Limoges, and since 2016 on permanent display at Marrakech Menara airport.
