Noureddine Ouarhim
Born in 1992 in Ida Ougourd, in the Haha region of Essaouira province, Noureddine Ouarhim earned a baccalaureate in applied arts in Essaouira (2011), a BTS in graphic arts and industry in Rabat (2013) and graduated from the Institut National des Beaux-Arts in Tetouan in 2017. He took part in the artist residency of Morocco's first Land Art festival in Tangier (2017), won third prize in the Banque Populaire painting competition (2018) and joined the Al Maqam residency in Tahanaout (2021).
The artist
He works across every medium, from sculpture and painting to ceramics, drawing and lithography, as well as land art and installation. His work is defined by masterful visual qualities: layered materials and assured drawing, with a Berber identity and roots given a contemporary touch.
From early on he developed a keen interest in raw natural substances. Earth, seeds and bark, with their considerable symbolic charge, have become his favoured materials, in a poetic, original and profound body of work: a true return to the self, and an ode to the Earth.
