Painter
Saïd Hbicha
Whether landscapes, alleys, souks or famous squares of Moroccan cities, Saïd Hbicha renders them beautifully with a rich palette and a deep knowledge of the visual arts. He studied in Tangier, then at the Faculty of Arts in Amiens, France, graduating in 1987, before training as an art teacher at the Regional Education Centre in Tangier.
The artist
As the critic Abdellah Cheikh notes, Hbicha goes beyond the anecdotal with spontaneity and mastery, drawing from the warm atmosphere of souks, shaded alleys and old doors an original visual language that links past and present, in fluid compositions where scenes and figures overlap with grace.
Always seeking a balance between content and form, his work recalls the great masters of 19th-century Realism, the movement led by Gustave Courbet, which he uses to explore everyday life and the beauty of Morocco.
