Paintings for a Moroccan living room: choosing an original work

Choosing a painting for a Moroccan living room means finding an artwork you love whose dimensions suit your room. An original painting can complement a traditional salon, a contemporary interior or a more minimalist space.

Measure the wall before choosing the painting

Measure the width of the wall, the sofa or banquette, and the available space above the furniture. Note the positions of sockets, wall lights and curtains too. A 100 × 100 cm square and a 120 × 120 cm painting occupy different amounts of space: mark their outlines with masking tape before deciding.

Look at the outline from the entrance and from your seating positions. Where an artwork’s page offers “To scale” or “In my room” views, use them to help compare, then check the actual measurements on your wall.

Choose between abstraction, figurative painting and calligraphy

An abstract painting lets you explore rhythms and colours. A figurative painting introduces a recognisable subject, such as a portrait or architecture. A work of contemporary Arabic calligraphy can bring a strong graphic presence. The artwork can echo a colour in the room without its entire palette having to match the furniture.

Consider the light and your budget

Look at the location in the morning and evening. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight and check for reflections if the artwork is behind glass. Set your budget and mention whether you would also like advice on framing or delivery; confirm the terms for your chosen artwork.
