Painter
Ahlam Lemseffer
Born in El Jadida, Ahlam Lemseffer lives and works in Casablanca. She trained in the visual arts at the Arts Décoratifs in Paris and at ESAG Penninghen, and holds a degree in English literature from Paris VIII University. Her practice brings together painting, sculpture and installation, exploring the relationship between forms, spaces and colours, and the tension between flatness and spatiality.
The artist
Exhibited in Morocco and internationally since the 1980s, she has taken part in the Cairo Biennale (2007), the 24th Alexandria Biennale (2008), the Graz Biennale of Sculpture and Installation (2013) and the Tunis International Biennale of Contemporary Art (2014).
Her abstract work questions architecture, the environment and human society through composition, surface, colour, light, transparency and layering. Honoured by the Académie des Sciences et des Lettres in France in 2008, she founded the Maison de l'Art Contemporain in Briech-Assilah in 2012. Her works are held in public and private collections in Morocco and abroad.
