Ahmed Daheur
Born in Casablanca in 1963, Ahmed Daheur graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts in Casablanca in 1983 and completed his training at the Institute of Art and Architecture in Marseille in 1985. His vocation showed early: at the age of twelve he won first prize in visual arts at a cultural event in Kuwait in 1975. Since his first exhibition in Casablanca in 1989, he has shown his work in solo and group exhibitions in Morocco and abroad.
The artist
Strongly influenced by Claude Monet, he paints scenes of life and picturesque landscapes with an impressionist vision and shimmering colour, telling the history and age-old traditions of Morocco. Between figuration and abstraction, he brings historic monuments to life, sometimes in decline, as a way of drawing attention to their fragility and the restoration they deserve.
His canvases depict the ksour and kasbahs of Errachidia, monuments and landscapes of Fez, Meknes and Chefchaouen, and scenes recalling his childhood in the Habous and Derb Soltane districts of Casablanca. He is also a musician and singer, with a particular love for the repertoire of Mohamed Abdelwahab.
