Painter
Aissa Joud
Born in 1992 in a village near Ouarzazate, Aïssa Joud is a self-taught painter and calligrapher. He grew up in a home where art and tradition went hand in hand: his mother was a seamstress and his father had a gift for drawing and stone carving.
The artist
As a child he felt confined at school and spent as much time as he could in his father's workshop. A few years later he knew for certain that his future lay in art. That passion and spontaneity feed the optimism and warmth that run through all his canvases.
His imaginary portraits, drawn from reality, show real command of line and colour. They carry the viewer into a world that feels like an augmented reality of dreams and happiness: expressive, open-ended works that invite reflection and interpretation.
