Aziz Sayed
Halfway between figuration and abstraction, Aziz Sayed paints portraits of women and men with technical mastery and a refined yet powerful sensibility. Originally from eastern Morocco, he discovered drawing and painting at secondary school in Kenitra. In 1967 he left on a scholarship to study cinema in Poland, where he specialised in scenography and set design, an experience that shaped his singular style. He went on to work for 32 years in Moroccan television.
The artist
The human being and the human condition lie at the heart of his work, with a profound, almost mystical treatment of the body. "I used to work on the male body, without a face; what interested me was the body in movement. Today I work on the female body. What matters to me is the human body. It is universal," he says. Birds, cats and elements of heritage or still life complete harmonious, choreographic compositions.
Drawing on Arab and Persian cultures, he searches in each layer of colour for a celestial light: "The first colour I put on the canvas inspires the others, which come as I paint. My painting must be luminous."

Yes: within 48 hours in Casablanca and Rabat, three to four days elsewhere in Morocco; international shipping is quoted on request. Payment is made on delivery, by bank transfer or by cheque.
