Painter
Boujemaa Settih
From Errachidia, Boujemaa Settih has chosen a modern language where many painters of his region remained attached to figuration and classical methods, and has made the child a central figure of his work.
The artist
Career
A native of Errachidia, in the Tafilalet, Boujemaa Settih is regarded in his region as one of the figures who opened local painting to modernity. He stands apart from the many artists of the area who work in a figurative style or according to classical methods, and is often described as the spiritual father of the modernisation of the visual arts in the region.
The figure of the child
The child holds a special place in his painting. This presence stems from the artist’s interest in the child as the person of the future, and from his long commitment to discovering and encouraging young talent.
