Erragueb El Haissan
Painter and calligrapher of the Moroccan south, Erragueb El Haissan works between letter and sign, in exhibitions whose very titles, from “Signes et lettres” to “Rythmes sahraouis”, map out his territory.
The artist
Career
Born in Tan-Tan in 1980, Erragueb El Haissan teaches visual arts and leads art workshops, passing on to the young what he practises in the studio. He has taken part in group exhibitions since 1996, first in Marrakech, then in the cities of the south, Tan-Tan, Smara and Laâyoune, before showing regularly in Casablanca and Agadir.
The letter and the desert
His work moves between painting and calligraphy, between the line of the letter and the free sign. In 2019 he was among the artists and visual arts teachers from the southern regions invited to “Esthétiques du désert”, the annual exhibition held during the Moussem of Tan-Tan, an event devoted to the aesthetics of his native region.
