Painter
Lahcen Ferssaoui
Lahcen Ferssaoui is a self-taught artist and calligrapher with a modernist sensibility, who blends poetry, image and calligraphy. His work is an arena where the soul and the consciousness of letters meet, moving from simplicity and precision to chaos and intensity.
The artist
Drawing on human heritage in general and Arab heritage in particular, he makes the Arabic letter a bridge between East and West. In his paintings the letter becomes colour: scattered alphabets, figures close to scarecrows, faces adorned with lines of ancient poetry or wisdom, in a surrealist world in which the poet and writer Alaa Keid Hasseb sees the presence of Salvador Dalí.
Between questioning and dreaming, his work creates a magical relationship between colour and letter, giving form to fears, pain and hopes, and deepening our connection with ourselves.
