Painter
Mohamed Douah
Mohamed Douah (1954–2009) was born in Meknes. A graduate of the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Tetouan, he went on to earn a diploma from the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in two years. A truly unconventional painter, he produced works charged with passion and driven by a muted violence, the work of a colossus whose unbridled energy poured into his canvases.
The artist
With his highly distinctive brushwork, he left a rich body of work devoted to Moroccan cultural traditions, painted again and again, the best known being his famous fantasias. Douah the artist is gone, but his work lives on and continues to grow in stature.
