About Mounir Dehane
Mounir Dehane is a self-taught painter and teacher, with a degree in linguistics, who has lived in Salé since 2007. He began painting in 2005 after spending time in fellow artists' studios, first painting the rural landscapes of the Chemaia region before turning to abstraction.
He works mainly with the palette knife, in oil, acrylic and mixed media, building up textured surfaces in earthy, warm tones with recurring whites and greys. Simple signs, such as lines, circles and the number three, punctuate his compositions. He cites Nicolas de Staël as a key influence and has taken part in group exhibitions since 2010.
