Painter
Omar Bouragba
Omar Bouragba is an abstract painter with a passion for geometry, whose work reflects his inner states. Drawing on spirituality, mysticism and the invisible, he chose abstraction as his mode of expression, a philosophical choice that shaped his aesthetic one. His harmonious, fluid paintings speak directly to the senses, opening onto shores of gentleness and tenderness, far from the cold and often sad passions of contemporary life.
The artist
Born in Marrakech, he came to know the Rabat art scene of the 1960s, where he first exhibited in 1965. His encounters with Jilali Gharbaoui in 1965 and Ahmed Yacoubi in 1968 were decisive for his direction as a painter, and the collector Abderrahmane Serghini acquired two of his paintings early on. In 1971 he returned to Marrakech, where he settled into the spirituality of Ibn Arabi.
A member of the National Fine Arts Association from 1965, a founding member of the Association of Moroccan Visual Artists (1975) and vice-president of the Moroccan Association of Visual Arts in 2003, he has painted for half a century with quiet constancy. He lives and works in Marrakech.
