Painter
Othmane Chamlani
A self-taught artist, Othmane Chamlani trained in the studios of the late Mohamed Douah, Karmane, Chaoui and others. Since 2003 he has held a steady stream of exhibitions, and created a 99-metre work for the 9th Youth Campus of Amnesty International Morocco.
The artist
An artist of lyrical abstraction, he makes his inspirations and sensations the driving force of his work. Fragments of emotion give momentum to interlacing gestures in a moving chromatic atmosphere, playing on the duality of ground and form. For him, creation is an illuminated moment of life, instinctive and free from the control of logic.
He also paints as performance, exploring the physical qualities of tools, supports and materials and inscribing his creation in time: ample, rapid, jubilant or meticulous gestures, staged with mastery, draw the audience to the heart of the work and into the dialogue between artist, instruments and material.
