The artist
Who is Salah Benjkan?
Born in Marrakech in 1968, Salah Benjkan is a Moroccan painter, printmaker and art teacher. He was a laureate of the Wafabank Foundation in 1993, received the Young Moroccan Painting Prize in 1995 and was awarded a residency at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris in 2000. He lives and works in Marrakech, and his work has been shown in Morocco and abroad.
His painting
Benjkan brings tradition and modernity together through dynamic forms, a vivid palette and close attention to light. Some works lean towards figuration, with groups of figures and dreamlike scenes; others dissolve into pure colour and rhythm. He works in acrylic on canvas and in mixed media on canvas and on wood.
His works at Moroccan Paintings
Moroccan Paintings presents a wide selection of his work: small 40 × 40 cm pieces in mixed media on wood, square 90 × 90 cm acrylics, and large formats up to 100 × 120 cm. Sold works stay visible in the archive, so you can follow the evolution of his painting over the years. Salah Benjkan is one of the artists shown at ARTWORKS by Moroccan Paintings.
