About Abdelaziz Abbassi
Abdelaziz Abbassi is a Moroccan painter based in Marrakech. Initially self-taught, he developed his artistic practice alongside a teaching career, in which drawing also served as a way to share ideas and support learning.
His work has moved from black-and-white pointillism towards an exploration of natural tones, including walnut stain, as well as watercolour, collage and mixed media. Doors, kasbahs and Moroccan urban landscapes recur in his sketches and compositions.
After retiring from public education in 2018, he devoted more time to his studio. His contributions to travel sketchbooks about Essaouira and Marrakech extend his observations of cities and the landscapes of the Atlas.
