Career
Moroccan painter Abdelfattah Karmane has chosen a figurative path that embraces naturalism and realism. Young when he made his name, he has shown his canvases in Morocco, including Marrakech, and in France, Russia, Italy and Portugal.

Summer fruit, antique household objects, the Oudayas of Rabat seen from Salé, the medina of Fez, portraits of elderly men and women he titles “La sagesse” or “La campagnarde”: Karmane renders each subject with a hypersensitivity to colour, texture, light and form, as the critics Terence MacCarthy and Andrew Clandermond have noted. His still lifes, such as “Nature morte aux figues de barbarie”, inherit the serene timelessness of the Dutch masters of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries; his portraits distil the suffering, wisdom and nobility of their sitters.
