Painter
Abdeslam Nouar
Nervous, flashing brushstrokes, colours bursting from everywhere, figures crossing in silent lanes: Abdeslam Nouar paints, he says, under the influence of a trance that never leaves him.
The artist
Career
Born in Tetouan in 1949, Abdeslam Nouar studied with a UNESCO grant at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels and then at the school of decorative arts, receiving several distinctions in that city. He has exhibited since 1965 in Tetouan, where he teaches at the School of Fine Arts and lives and works.
Light and movement
His figurative painting describes the everyday environment, in light, fresh colours that give pride of place to movement and light. Each time he faces the canvas a new adventure begins: landscapes that escape space and time, figures intertwining in the maze of the medina, a work to be read on several levels at once.
