Painter
Anas Bouanani
Water, the sea, their substance and movement, limpid or churned, between sky and earth: Anas Bouanani builds what the critic Toni Maraini called “a poetics of fluctuation”.
The artist
Career
Born in Asilah on 30 July 1975, Anas Bouanani is a visual arts teacher and a member of the Moroccan Association of Plastic Arts (AMAP). His path is marked by international biennials, residencies, workshops and teaching. He won the first prize of the grand painting competition in Rabat in 2008 and an honourable mention at the 5th European International Book Art Biennale in Romania in 2020.
A guided gesture
For Toni Maraini, Bouanani has patiently defined his own style, within the lively current of Moroccan painting inspired by the forms, phenomena and materials of nature. The gesture is fundamental, yet it guides and masters rather than merely producing chance effects: traces and lines capture the momentary on the stage of the eternal.
