Painter
Youssef Zouhari
For Youssef Zouhari, nature is not a motif but an energy: molten colour, fine lines and calligraphic strokes compose a plant world in constant bloom.
The artist
Career
A Moroccan painter, Youssef Zouhari has built his practice around nature and the plant world. His work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Morocco and abroad, notably in Germany, France and Spain, and a distinction received in Tunisia marked an important step in his path.
Colour, line and calligraphy
His canvases set broad fields of almost incandescent colour against a web of loose lines and calligraphic signs. Open to several cultural references, his painting remains deeply rooted in Moroccan and Arab heritage, whose writing it renews rather than repeats.
