An important figure of the Moroccan scene, Bachir Amal has built over more than thirty years a body of work found in most of the country’s major collections, and a reputation as a mentor to younger painters.
The artist
Career
Born in Oued Zem in 1954, Bachir Amal lives and works in Casablanca. He was truly launched by the Wafabank Foundation exhibition of 1989. His works are held in most major national collections as well as in the Roger Shashoua Foundation in London, and have appeared in countless group exhibitions, including in Baku, London, Manama, Amman, Sharjah and Garrovillas de Alconétar in Spain, alongside a growing number of solo shows.

As the critic Jean-François Clément has noted, Amal is also known through the painters he has trained or encouraged, at university and beyond: a body of work that extends into transmission.
