Painter
Chama Chraibi
“La Précieuse”, “Le Paresseux”, “Le Farceur”: Chama Chraïbi’s abstract faces, born of a love of line and graphics, wear contemporary profiles and pop colours.
The artist
Career
Chama Chraïbi grew up surrounded by art, her mother being a painter, and developed early an attraction to Cubism and abstraction. Working in finance in Paris, she drew and painted as a pastime until she returned to Casablanca on the last flight before the borders closed in 2020. During those weeks she experimented with oil, acrylic, canvas, ceramics and metal, rediscovering Picasso, Miró and Matisse, and launched her brand Chams On Canvas.
Faces in lines
Her obsession with lines leads her to sketch abstract faces almost automatically, as situations reveal them. Each figure becomes a character, with a name and a personality, in a resolutely contemporary abstract identity.
