Hakim Ghailan
Screen printing, photo-engraving, electro-engraving: Hakim Ghaïlan has made Asilah a home for printmaking, through his own work and the workshops he founded.
The artist
Career
Born in Asilah in 1965, Hakim Ghaïlan studied at the School of Fine Arts in Tetouan and trained in several printmaking techniques as well as furniture design and ceramics. He has led printmaking workshops at the Tetouan School of Fine Arts and at the Royal College of Art in London. In 1995 he co-founded the artistic group Les Quatre Caractères, in 1996 the Stamp-art printmaking and screen-printing workshop in Asilah, and in 2002 the Galerie Hakim, a gallery and print studio in the same city.
A passer-on
Alongside his own practice, Ghaïlan has helped organise many cultural events in Morocco, making printmaking a shared and living art in the city of the Moussem.
