Painter
Hassan Nadim
Close up, without a telephoto lens, often in black and white: Hassan Nadim photographs Marrakech and Jemaa el-Fna with an intimacy that turns each picture into an exchange.
The artist
Career
Born in 1959 in Imintanout, in the province of Chichaoua, Hassan Nadim lives and works between Marrakech and El Jadida. Drawn to painting, he turned to photography in 1986, while teaching for more than twenty years before devoting himself entirely to his art. Self-taught, he has exhibited since 1991 and has become an essential name in Moroccan photography.
Nostalgia and proximity
His series on Jemaa el-Fna and other heritage sites of Morocco draw on the spaces, colours and contrasts of Marrakech, a city that has left deep marks on his work, always tinged with nostalgia. He sometimes captures the events of the day from an unexpected angle. Faithful to close-range photography, he favours black and white, turning to colour only when the subject demands it.
