The artist
Career
A Russian painter, Igor Loginov first studied biochemistry at the medical university in Moscow. Spending hours in the studios of artist friends trained at the fine-arts institute, he learned their techniques and gave everything up for painting. He settled in Morocco in November 2000 with his wife, whom he had met as a student in Moscow, and has exhibited regularly in Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakech and Settat.
The painter’s eye
Self-taught, he has moved through realism, impressionism, figuration and abstraction. His method begins with the search for light, then the placing of elements and the choice of colours. In his series inspired by the north, Chefchaouen and Tetouan, he composes imaginary views from many photographs and from memory: a Morocco different from that of Moroccan painters, because seen by a foreigner.
