Painter
Mohammed Mikou
Shimmering colour laid down in a kind of trance, free and harmonious forms: Mohammed Mikou paints a Sufi-inspired abstraction that invites contemplation.
The artist
Career
Born in Fez in 1979, Mohammed Mikou began painting at fifteen. Painting became for him the outlet of a deep grief, the loss of his father in a tragic accident, and then a lasting vocation. Self-taught, he has been exhibiting regularly since 2012 and keeps renewing his materials and themes.
Colour and contemplation
Mikou paints spontaneously, sometimes reaching moments of trance in which brush and colour seem to lead. His abstractions, touched by Sufism, speak of love of God, wisdom and inner peace; others echo national events, translated into vibrant colours chosen with care. With his series “Chadarate” (Fragments), painted in part during the pandemic, he went to meet students and young graduates, convinced that art is the best way to communicate and to spark creativity in others.
