The artist
Career
Born in Tetouan in 1976, Safaa Erruas graduated from the city’s National Institute of Fine Arts in 1998 and has exhibited in Morocco and abroad since the late 1990s. In 2006 she was the youngest artist in “A Hundred Years of Painting in Morocco”, the exhibition that opened the new premises of the Institut français in Rabat. She lives and works in Tetouan.
A wounded white
Her work, abstract and minimal, is almost entirely white. Seams, sutures, cuts and suspended elements give paper and fabric a body; sharp objects bring in danger. Between drawing, installation and photography, she refuses to settle into a single technique, and explores an intimate, female world where delicacy becomes a quiet form of resistance.
