Painter
Abdeladim Zouine
Pure colours of his own invention, abstract structures dressed in geometric forms, traces and faded motifs: Abdeladim Zouine Cherkaoui paints movement, what changes, never at rest.
The artist
Career
Born in Boujad in 1954, Abdeladim Zouine Cherkaoui is a painter, researcher and poet, one of the marking figures of the new contemporary Moroccan sensibility. In December 2014 his recent works were shown in the group exhibition “Les mains qui voient” at the Forum de la Culture, the former Sacré-Cœur Cathedral in Casablanca.
Between the visible and the invisible
His approach borrows from poetry and from mathematical rigour. Through a daily practice of neo-figurative painting, he articulates discreet abstract structures and full-coloured geometric forms, seeking, he says, a symbiosis between the visible and the invisible. Rooted in heritage, his language leaves aside the literal representation of the real for a symbolic interpretation of collective memory, a return to the sources of identity.
