Painter
Abdelaziz Lourhraz
Arabesque and calligraphy, Arabic, Amazigh, Latin or Chinese: in Abdelaziz Lourhraz’s abstract painting, the letter becomes a trace and the hand seems to dance on the canvas.
The artist
An open field
For Moroccan painter Abdelaziz Lourhraz, painting is a field of experimentation open to every investigation. His canvases invite a journey into a world of signs and symbols where what is hidden matters more than what is revealed: a coded language of forms, contrasts and depth, animated by pure, warm colours.
The freed letter
Using calligraphy, Lourhraz frees the letter from its normative design to express the freedom of movement, reshaping and magnifying it within a carefully organised space. Each new canvas is a real experience in which he engages physically, psychically and aesthetically with matter; abstraction becomes a dance of forms and colours, a flexible, spontaneous gesture in which a pure emotion is expressed.
