Career
Born in Casablanca in 1957, Abdellatif Lasri was noticed by critics as early as 1983. Discreet and eclectic, he has exhibited widely, moving between Morocco and France and making a name for himself in Paris.
The art of sudden appearance
His long series of faces made the human a matter of apparitions: brief bursts in which one senses the existential concerns of a painter who approaches his support like an anthropologist approaching virgin but clue-filled ground. He has since moved to a more abstract, almost monochrome painting, with flashes of black and grey or black and white, an art of immediate emergence and flat colour. A coherent line runs through these thirty years: free, reflective work, kept away from fashion and ease.
