Painter
Abdelwakil Zouheir
Stylised heads of lions, wolves and horses whose eyes hold the whole painting: Abdelwakil Zouheir paints animals to restore their nobility and dignity.
The artist
Career
Born in Casablanca in 1993, Abdelwakil Zouheir has a very particular relationship with animals, to which he devoted his final-year thesis. He has exhibited his work at the Banque Populaire gallery.
The “ani-stories”
In his paintings the eyes of the animals are central, because it is through their gaze that communication with humans is established. Each work tells a story, what he calls an “ani-story”, and some include lines of poetry. A committed defender of the animal cause, he denounces the role of humans in the extinction of many species and paints the beauty and majesty of animals to free them from the contempt in which our societies have long held them.
