Painter
Amal Sentissi
Black, which reveals all other colours when it is spread: Amal Sentissi found in this “colour and non-colour” the release of a long-hidden passion.
The artist
Career
Amal Sentissi grew up surrounded by art, first with her father, a great lover of Moroccan painters such as Regragui and Chaïbia, then with her late husband, a collector and art dealer, through whom she studied the history of painting, photography and sculpture. After a long career in banking and finance, she revealed her artistic side: first restoring period furniture to give it a contemporary touch, then painting on wood and finally on canvas. Her first exhibition, held outside conventional venues, also opened a space for young artists.
The light of black
Her palette narrowed from warm colours to blues, then to black, the decisive encounter: the more she works it, the more nuances she finds, until light springs from it. She feels closest to abstraction and abstract expressionism, particularly colour-field painting, and to minimalism, while refusing to be confined by theory, preferring to go towards what she does not yet know.
