A self-taught path
For Booshra Mastour, learning as a self-taught painter is a school in which every discipline of the living world, science, gastronomy, medicine, trees, ants, astronomy or the human brain, becomes artistic teaching. Before loving painting, she loves materials and tools: she paints the way one cooks, respecting each ingredient, mixing mediums with oil, refusing to be confined by a single brush, an easel or a stretcher. The more she advances, the more her vision is stripped back.
A portrait in the dark
Her portraits are not easily exhibited in the conventional way: they ask the viewer for complete presence and silence, alone or in small groups, in a suspended time where nothing is to be believed or known, only observed. The studio remains for her the intimate gallery where the works are born and best encountered.
