The artist
Career
Born in Bamako in 1990, Dramane Toloba earned a master’s degree in visual arts from the Balla Fasséké Kouyaté Conservatory of Arts and Multimedia (CAMM) in Bamako in 2017, alongside a degree in management. A member of the Tim’Arts collective, he has taken part several times in Ségou’Art and exhibited in Bamako, at the Galerie Médina, Taxi Bamako and the Institut français, as well as in France and Ecuador, at the 2nd World Summit of Arts for Peace and Life.
The colours of hope
Collaging fabrics onto canvas with acrylic, he addresses the programmed robotisation of the world, climate change, the place of humans amid technology, the suffering of women, poor governance and corruption, setting tradition against modernity. His colours, inspired by the dress of African women, bring lightness to heavy subjects: colours, he says, that make one want to believe and to escape.
