Painter
Hafid Marbou
Earthy browns, natural pigments mixed into moving surfaces, circles that float like bubbles or stars: Hafid Marbou pursues a non-figurative painting that grows ever freer.
The artist
A constant search
Moroccan painter Hafid Marbou keeps questioning his own language. From one series to the next his masses, forms and lines change appearance, creating breaks while preserving his own imprint. His palette comes from matter itself, colour and natural pigments laid in surfaces now monochrome, now varied.
The joy of circles
For the critic Hassan Wahbi, his recent work shows a tendency towards purification, floating figures and an aerial desire built from circular forms joyfully repeated: “bubbles” or stars that are mobilities and movements. Not the naivety of diversity, but a long path towards the end of his expressionism: another idea of endless figuration, of visual happiness.
