Painter
Mahjoub Houmaine
Tea, encounters, conversations: Mahjoub Houmaine paints the warmth of human exchange, in figures more abstract than figurative, carried by layered colour and movement.
The artist
Career
Born in Rabat in 1966, where he works, Mahjoub Houmaine trained at the School of Fine Arts in Tetouan. He has exhibited since 1991 in Tangier, Casablanca and Ouarzazate, in group and solo shows and in galleries.
A philosophy of dialogue
Working mainly in oil and watercolour, techniques he now masters fully, Houmaine has made discussion his favourite theme. His Moroccan scenes of tea and meetings develop a whole philosophy of human warmth; the intensity of superimposed colours and the strength of the movement suggested give his figures their presence.
