The artist
Career
Born in 1991, Mohammed Chrouro lives and works in Casablanca. A conceptual artist, he focuses his research on the great questions of the future and the aesthetics that come with them. From 2009 to 2014 he was a member of the Radar collective, and he is regarded as the founder of a Moroccan “New Aesthetic”.
Emotional gradients
He showed his first “Dégradés” paintings in group exhibitions in 2012; his manifesto text “Emotional Gradients”, published in 2015, presents the gradient as a painting of emotion, an affective trigger. In 2016 he developed a body of work built on synthetic images, a kind of concrete imaginary describing a world where anarchy and order clash and where beauty and horror coexist.
