Painter
Saoussan Melehi
Fragility, sensitivity, transparency: Saoussan Melehi builds an abstraction of the inner life, with humble materials, simple forms and natural colours.
The artist
Career
Born in Asilah, Saoussan Melehi graduated from the National Institute of Fine Arts in Tetouan. A multidisciplinary artist, she works in painting, installation and sculpture, and chairs the Association for Culture and Art for Human Development (ACADH), which links artistic practice and social engagement.
An abstraction of thought
Her work belongs to contemporary abstraction, and is often described as philosophical: each piece is a meditation on what is fragile and what passes. She combines techniques and plain materials so that form and colour remain close to nature, and leaves room for light to pass through, as if transparency were itself a subject.
