The artist
Career
A telecommunications and sound engineer well known in Moroccan broadcasting, Abdellah El Karaoui has drawn and painted since childhood, with charcoal and brush, hanging his canvases at home without thinking of exhibiting them. He first showed his work at a posthumous tribute to the painter Hamid Kiran; a journey to Italy then convinced him to build a body of work for the public.
Image and sound
Self-taught, he sees each painting as a journey into a world both real and abstract. His career in audiovisual media, where he met many Moroccan artists, nourished his search for the form and style he wanted, and his work combines a sense of image and of rhythm.
