Painter
Abderrahim Agdiche
Sea captain, harbour pilot, inventor and maritime expert, Abderrahim Agdiche came back to painting after a full life at sea, as one returns to a lost pleasure.
The artist
Career
Born in Safi, Abderrahim Agdiche loved drawing and painting from childhood, to the point of pestering the house painter who came to repaint the family walls until he gave him an old brush. In his final school year he was invited to sit a drawing examination in Marrakech; but after his science baccalaureate he chose, like many young people from Safi, a career at sea. Captain, harbour pilot, inventor and maritime expert, he set drawing aside for many years.
The return
One day, over a cup of coffee on a terrace, the memory of that pleasure came back. He quickly bought paints and stretchers, and began a second career, this time as a painter: a reunion with his first passion, nourished by a lifetime of horizons and seas.
