The artist
Career
Born in Marrakech in 1955, Ahmed Ben Ismael is a painter and photographer, and also a journalist for Moroccan and international media. He has designed many covers for literary and art books and posters for cultural events. His first exhibition, “Contes soufis”, was held in 1990 at the Galerie L’Atelier in Rabat and then at the Institut français in Marrakech; since 1994 he has shown his painting and photography across Morocco and abroad. He lives and works in Marrakech.
Signs, greens and reds
From painting to photography, the same climate prevails: signs that evoke talismans, deliberately left illegible, and a palette dominated by green and red. Ben Ismael uses the plant dyes of weavers, whose emblematic shades refer to a living reality and to the writing of a soul.
