Painter
Ahmed El Amine
Large flat areas of colour, geometric forms and faces without gender: Ahmed El Amine paints universal figures and leaves the viewer free to complete them.
The artist
Career
Born in Casablanca in 1966, Ahmed El Amine graduated from the Casablanca school of visual arts in 1986. A visual arts teacher since 1988 and leader of art workshops for children, he has exhibited since 1987 in Morocco and abroad. He lives and works in Azemmour.
The active viewer
Between primary figuration and transfiguration of the real, his canvases are luminous, mixing cool and vivid colours. Graphic design taught him the rigour and force of line; sometimes the line dissolves, leaving room for geometric forms and broad flat areas that together suggest figures and situations. Faces and bodies are deliberately genderless to underline their universality: El Amine claims an active role for the viewer’s imagination.
